End Citizens United Reveal How Foreign Firms Interfered in The US 2016 Elections

According to recent findings by End Citizens United, a Russian company that is associated with Kremlin used $ 100,000 to buy Facebook ads in a bid to influence the 2016 presidential elections. Although there are election laws against this practice, the practice of foreign countries and organizations intervening in the US elections has been in existence in almost every past election.

Politicians and their allies have time and time again gone against the laid-out campaign finance laws and billionaires, and foreign firms can connect with them so that they can be favored when the politicians are voted in; this leads to rigged elections. The technicalities in the election campaign laws need to be dealt with so that people are no longer allowed to spend with no care during elections.

There have been other known cases of foreign organizations and individuals spending on the US elections. In 2016, a Chinese citizen donated $1.3 million to a US-based Super PAC. In the same year, another Mexican entrepreneur gave a huge chunk of money to another Super APC through a shell firm. The entrepreneur was later convicted.

Some proposals and bills in Congress can be passed to close the existing loopholes, including the DISCLOSE Act and the Get Money Out of US Election Act. However, the opposition by the Republicans to pass the DISCLOSE Act, which requires all private and public institutions and individuals to disclose how they spend their money during politics have allowed foreign governments, organizations, and individuals to interfere in the US elections. The Republicans need to rethink this move, and Congress needs to act so that the US citizens can be able to trust the election outcomes.

End Citizens United is a donor-funded political action committee (PAC) established in 2015. It was founded in a bid to overturn the Supreme Court 2010 decision in the court case of Citizens United v F.E.C. Their goal is to bring to an end ‘The End Citizens United’ the court decision that allowed the making of unlimited and untraceable donations during elections. The group educates the public on the money issues in politics. They hope to get money out of US politics and improve the political system of the US. The committee endorses and supports politicians who support the message of putting the citizens first.

The group gets its funding from grassroots donors and make their spending transparent practicing what they preach. More than 325,000 people have signed the group’s petition to Congress to pass a constitutional amendment that will reverse the Supreme Court Citizens United ruling. The PAC has also continued to endorse Democratic candidates who stand by their goal for the 2018 elections. The candidates include; Sec Michael Benet of Calando, Sen. Russ Feingold of Wisconsin and Randy Bryce for Congress, among many others. The group has raised more than $ 2million to support the politicians. It is no secret that this is one of the most organized groups that seeks to do away with special interests in the US politics.
