Apple Rejects Steam App

Steam is a popular pc gaming vehicle in which users purchase games and play them on their desktop computer. The main disadvantage of this is that you need to be on your physical computer to enjoy the game.

Valve, the company that is responsible for the Steam platform, has tried to bring pc gaming out of the desktop and into the rest of your life. One way that they tried to do so is with Steam Link, which conveniently linked With your television and Allows you to play PC games with a steam controller on your television. Unfortunately for steam this product never fully took off or was successful.

Steam announced back in May, that a new free app called the steam link app, would be available to individuals who want to play games on their smart phone. With this app, players would be able to link to their steam account and play PC games from the convenience of their home or while they’re away from their home on their smart phone. Valve was able to roll out the steam link app through the Android App Store which is less restrictive and more inclusive than Apple’s iOS operating system.

Apple originally reported that they would allow the steam link app to be accessible to players with their App Store, but announce this week that they are rejecting the steam link app for undisclosed reasons. This has left gameplayers skeptical of these reasons including concerns that Apple is rejecting it as a team will not allow in app purchases of which Apple typically retains 30% off.

Instead, Valve announced that the app was rejected due to Business Conflicts and has indicated that they remain hopeful that the app would be allowed in the future and that they will be working to have the app approved in the future. For players of pc games who are on the Apple platform, this is truly a lost opportunity but hopefully a short one.
