Improvements in the Education Sector by Betsy Devos

Betsy Devos, officially known as Elisabeth Prince is a famous American well known as an educational activist, a businesswoman, and a politician. As a politician, she serves as a Republican from West Michigan who is currently the United States Secretary of education. In the education sector, she is well recognized for her support and advocating for voucher programs and charter schools.

Moreover, she is also an incredible humanitarian where together with her husband, Richard Marvin (Dick Devos) they founded the Dick & Betsy Devos Foundation. The organization gives back to the society through supporting different organizations. The primary core sectors that the foundation supports are education, art, justice, community, and leadership. The couple has donated to a vast array of events such as the Dick & Betsy Devos Foundation, donated $11.6 million in 2015 summing up to $ 139million of their lifetime donations. $ 3 million of the 11.6 million was fully directed to educational matters.

Betsy Devos explained that her donations are not any political agenda as I had thought earlier. She clarified that all her contributions are a direct support to the help of the society. Betsy has helped many schools through her foundation such as in 2013 Betsy donated to West Michigan Aviation Academy,Potter’s House and Dick Devos’ alma mater Northwood University in Midland among others. She is passionate about the educational activities going to the next level. Betsy is always encouraging schools to allow students join private school via voucher programs with public funding and also introduce charter schools.

Mrs. Devos is a board member of the Foundation for Excellence in Education. She has used her membership to help many students achieve their dreams. Betsy founded ArtPrize, an international competition for art contestants awarding the best-talented ones. Five years ago, the Devos couple founded an aviation charter school at Gerald R. Ford International Airport. Their foundation contributed $ 315, 000 to the institution, West Michigan Aviation Academy, for purchasing their first plane.

Last year their graduating class produced 15 licensed pilots to the world. This success made me consider my children to join the aviation school. Students travel for hours from far places to the school to get the robotics and aeronautical knowledge they offer. Betsy believes in kids being considered to have opinions in world affairs which I think it is a wise choice. Moreover, their comfort and attitude should always be checked.
