InnovaCare Health, a Puerto Rico-based provider of Medicare Advantage Plans and Physician Network services has partnered with HSS’s Health Care Payment Learning and Action Network (LAN). The mission of the partnership is to reform and transition the United States Health System by implementing alternative payment methods according to quality of services provided by physicians and medical specialists. The payment system is presently set up to process payments to healthcare providers based on quantity. LAN was introduced by HHS in March 2015 and designed to implement payment processing approaches in the public and private sectors in the U.S. Executives of InnovaCare, Richard Shinto, M.D. and Penelope Kokkinides have important roles of helping LAN accomplished their goals and mission.
The announcement of the partnership between InnovaCare Health and Health Care Payment Learning and Action Network was released on August 2nd, 2016. InnovaCare joined LAN to provide support of reforming the payment method program and to provide progress reports of the system transitioning to Learning and Action Network. LAN’s mission is to secure 30 percent of U.S. Healthcare payments to alternative payment methods (APMs) in 2016. By the end of 2018, the goal is to have 50 percent of payments converted to APMs. InnovaCare is committed to help accomplish those goals by measuring progression and participating in the LAN Nationwide Data Collection.

InnovaCare will also participate in quantitive data survey and categorize payments for their Medicare and Medicaid Advantage Plans constructed on the framework of APMs. InnovaCare Health is a leading provider of managed healthcare services in Puerto Rico. The organization offers two primary care programs, Provider Networks, and Medicare Advantage & Medicaid Programs. Medicare Advantage Plan types include Health Maintenance Organizations, Preferred Provider Organizations, Private Fee for Service, Special Needs Plans, and other plans. Dr. Rick Shinto presently serves as the President and Chief Executive Office in. He joined InnovaCare with more than 20 years of experience in clinical, care management and operational healthcare. Penelope Kokkinides currently serves as Chief Administrative Officer and brings 20 years of experience to the team. She specializes in Medicare and Medicaid governmental programs, health care management, organizational infrastructure, and operations. Dr. Shinto and Penelope Kokkinides will help LAN with their overall goal of reforming the U.S. Health System to process healthcare providers’ payments based on quality of services provided to patients, rather than quantity.
